Simplifying CUCM Upgrade and Migration Tasks Using Cisco PCD – Prime Collaboration Deployment

November 16, 2017

Performing upgrades and migrations of CUCM has always been a long, manual process that required lots of staging and prepping as well as after-hours work.  With the release of version 10.X Collaboration Suite, a product called Cisco Prime Collaboration Deployment (PCD) was released.

Cisco Prime Collaboration Deployment is an application designed to assist in the management of Unified Communications applications. It allows the administrator to deploy, upgrade, migrate, re-ip, and move from physical to virtual hardware.

Cisco Prime Collaboration Deployment Has Four Primary, High-Level Functions

  1. Migrate an existing cluster of Unified Communications (UC) servers to a new cluster (this may be MCS to virtual or virtual to virtual).
  2. Perform operations on existing clusters (8.6.1 or higher).  Examples include: upgrade, switch version, restart.
  3. Change IP addresses or Hostnames in the cluster on existing Release 10.0(1) clusters.
  4. Fresh install a new Release 10.x Unified Communications cluster.

PCD is deployed as a virtual machine with very minimal specs.
